Our Founder and Executive Director

Vyjayanthi Sankar is the founder and executive director of CSSL. She has established credibility as South Asia’s leading assessment and research expert with her work in the area of assessments research in the last two decades. Vyjayanthi advises ministries and educational bodies across the world for national learning assessments, including India’s Ministry of Education, Maldives’ Ministry of Education, Nepal’s Education Review Office, and 21 countries in Eastern and Southern Africa. She was awarded the prestigious Fulbright Humphrey Fellowship in 2013-14 in recognition of demonstrated leadership and commitment to public service. She received the Ashoka Fellowship in 2015-16 for her entrepreneurship and dedication to bring in large scale transformation in India on capabilities of teachers, public institutions and system through CSSL.

Our Team

CSSL’s team of resident and non-resident experts are drawn from premier institutions such as the IITs, IIMs and leading universities such as the Harvard and Oxford. Members have experience of building large scale diagnostic assessment tools in multiple languages, executing data collection and analysing more than 15 million students’ data across South Asia. Having researched on student cognitive and affective learning through impact evaluation, randomised control trials, cross sectional and longitudinal studies in government and private schools, the team brings expertise in assessment theories, international standards and best practises in assessments.
